Log In | Uphold®
A practical guide to signing in to your Uphold account, securing access with two-factor authentication, recovering access if you’re locked out, and troubleshooting common login problems.
Quick overview — how signing in works
Uphold® provides an account-based platform for fiat and crypto services. Signing in authenticates you to Uphold’s web or mobile apps and grants access to balances, payment methods, and trading features. A typical sign-in flow includes:
- Open the Uphold website (uphold.com) or the Uphold mobile app.
- Enter your registered email address and password.
- Complete any required multi-factor authentication (MFA), such as SMS, authenticator app code, or hardware key.
- Access your dashboard after verification.
This guide expands each step, explains security options, and covers recovery and troubleshooting so you can sign in confidently and securely.
Step-by-step sign-in (web & mobile)
Web (desktop)
- Open your browser and navigate to https://uphold.com. Confirm the domain and HTTPS lock icon — avoid links from unsolicited emails.
- Click Sign in or Log in (usually top-right).
- Type the email you registered with and your password. Many browsers offer to remember your credentials — consider whether that is appropriate for your device.
- If you have MFA enabled, you will be prompted for a second factor (authenticator app code, SMS code, or WebAuthn/hardware key). Enter the code or confirm using your security key.
- After successful verification you’ll land on your Uphold dashboard.
Mobile app (iOS & Android)
- Open the official Uphold app (download only from Apple App Store or Google Play).
- Tap Sign in and enter your registered email and password.
- Complete MFA when prompted (push notifications, SMS, or authenticator codes may be used).
- Optionally enable biometric unlock (Face ID / Touch ID / Android biometrics) for faster subsequent sign-ins on that device.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) — recommended
Uphold supports multiple MFA options. Using MFA dramatically reduces the chance that someone who learns your password can access your account.
- Authenticator apps (recommended): Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator — generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTP).
- SMS codes: Delivered to your phone number. Convenient but less secure than authenticator apps because of SIM swap risk.
- Push notifications: Approve a sign-in directly from the Uphold mobile app.
- Hardware security keys (WebAuthn, U2F): Physical keys like YubiKey provide the highest level of protection.
Tip: Use an authenticator app or hardware key where possible. Keep backup codes or a backup authenticator (or Authy multi-device) in a secure place in case you lose the primary device.
Biometrics and device unlock
On mobile devices, Uphold offers biometric unlock (Face ID, Touch ID, Android biometric). Biometrics provide quick access but are device-specific — if you lose your phone you’ll still need your password/MFA to sign in on another device. Treat biometric unlock as a convenience layer, not a replacement for MFA and a strong password.
New to Uphold? Quick notes on account creation
If you don’t yet have an Uphold account, you’ll need to register before signing in:
- Click Get started or Sign up on the Uphold homepage.
- Provide an email address and set a strong password.
- Verify your email by clicking the link Uphold sends you.
- Complete identity verification (KYC) if you plan to deposit fiat, trade, or use advanced services — this typically requires a photo ID and selfie.
Once registered and verified, use the sign-in steps above to access your account.
Forgot password / account recovery
If you forget your password, follow Uphold’s password recovery flow:
- Click Forgot password? on the sign-in page.
- Enter your registered email. Uphold will send a password reset link to that address.
- Open the email and follow the secure link — links typically expire, so act promptly.
- Create a new strong password and sign in. You may be asked to complete MFA again.
If you no longer have access to your recovery email or phone, contact Uphold Support and be prepared to provide identity verification details. Keep in mind support processes can vary and may take time when identity checks are required.
Locked out? Account disabled or flagged
If your account is temporarily locked or flagged for review (e.g., suspicious activity, failed verifications), Uphold will usually provide instructions by email. To resolve these issues:
- Carefully read any emails from Uphold and follow the steps provided (do not use links from suspicious messages).
- Prepare identity documents (government ID, proof of address) if requested for verification.
- Contact Uphold Support through official channels: the support portal or the authenticated in-app help system.
Beware of fraudsters posing as support. Uphold will never ask for your full password or recovery codes via email or chat. If an unsolicited support contact asks for sensitive credentials, report it immediately.
Common sign-in problems & troubleshooting
- Incorrect password: Use the password reset flow. Consider a password manager to reduce mistakes.
- MFA code not accepted: Check your device clock if using TOTP (authenticator apps require accurate time). Use backup codes if available.
- SMS not received: Ensure correct phone number, check for carrier issues, or use an authenticator app instead.
- App update required: Update the mobile app or clear app cache and try again.
- Browser problems: Try a private/incognito window, clear cookies, or try a different browser. Disable interfering extensions (ad-blockers, privacy tools) temporarily.
- Network blocks: Some corporate or public networks restrict access — switch to a trusted network or use your mobile data.
If basic troubleshooting fails, contact Uphold Support and include detailed, non-sensitive information: time of the issue, device and OS, browser/app version, and steps you tried.
Security best practices for your Uphold account
- Strong unique password: At least 12 characters, mixed character types, unique per site — use a trusted password manager.
- Enable MFA: Prefer authenticator apps or hardware keys over SMS when possible.
- Protect your email: Your email is the recovery anchor — secure it with MFA and a strong password.
- Beware phishing: Verify domains and don’t click suspicious links. Uphold will never ask for your full password or 2FA codes in unsolicited communications.
- Keep devices healthy: Regularly update OS and apps, use antivirus/anti-malware, and avoid jailbroken or rooted devices for high-value transactions.
- Use withdrawal whitelist (if available): Lock withdrawals to trusted addresses when possible to limit exposure.
Session management & logged-in devices
Check your account’s active sessions and device list periodically (available in security settings). If you see an unfamiliar session, log it out from your account page and change your password immediately. Also review connected third-party apps and revoke access where necessary.
Business & corporate sign-in notes
Business or enterprise accounts may use SSO, corporate identity providers, or delegated admin controls. If you’re part of an organization, follow your company’s onboarding and security policies. Admins should enable enterprise MFA requirements and audit logs for compliance and monitoring.
Final notes
Signing in to Uphold is simple but securing that access requires attention. Use strong unique passwords, enable robust MFA, protect your email account, and verify all communication channels. If you ever face trouble, use Uphold’s official support channels and never share your password, MFA codes, or recovery details with anyone.
